Prior to 1976, Chenango Ambulance Service, in the Town of Chenango, was provided by the Broome County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Department disbanded the ambulance and several new ambulance squads were formed. One of these was the Chenango Volunteer Emergency Squad.
